Classic Gingerbread Men

Oh how I love the holidays! Especially baking during a blizzard with the tree lit, a candle burning, and some classic Christmas music playing in the background.

These Gingerbread Men make the whole house smell like warm ginger and molasses. What could be better!

This recipe is really easy and not very time consuming. Quick enough to get you right to the decorating part, which is the best part.

This year, it’s especially important that we enjoy every moment of holiday bliss. If we can end the year on a positive note, then I believe that it will make 2021 a little more appealing.

So make these gingerbread men and a nice, warm cup of hot cocoa and sit by the fire watching Christmas movies!

An easy, classic holiday recipe
Prep Time15 minutes
Course: Dessert
Cuisine: American
Keyword: Christmas, cookies, Gingerbread, Holiday

Equipment

  • Sheet Pan, Cookie Cutter, Parchment Paper

Ingredients

  • 1.5 cups All-Purpose Flour Sifted
  • 1.5 tsp Cinnamon
  • 1 tsp Ground Ginger
  • 1/4 tsp Allspice
  • 1/4 tsp Clove
  • 1/4 tsp Nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup Dark Brown Sugar Packed
  • 6 tbsp Salted Butter Room Temperature
  • 1 Egg
  • 1/4 cup Molasses
  • 1/2 tbsp Maple Syrup
  • 1/2 tsp Vanilla

Icing

  • 1.5 cup Powdered Sugar
  • 1.5 tbsp Water

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Sift the flour into a large bowl and add the spices and brown sugar. Beat the egg and add that along with the butter, molasses, maple syrup and vanilla to the bowl.
  • Mix together and you will get a thick dough. Place in the freezer for 30 minutes to harden.
  • Once cooled, place on a floured piece of parchment paper and roll out dough to make the cookies. Lay the cut unbaked, cookies onto a parchment lined sheet pan and bake for 8-10 minutes. The cookies will not brown so visually it is hard to tell when they are done. 8 minutes should be sufficient depending on how thick you make the cookies.
  • When the cookies are done, mix the icing ingredients and pipe using a ziploc bag. Just cut a TINY hole in a corner.
